Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., on Sunday blamed anti-police rhetoric for the weekend attacks on three NYPD police officers.
“There is a direct connection between the disgraceful anti-Police demonstration and rampage through Grand Central Station last week,” King said in a statement. “That type of radical anarchy creates the climate that leads to deadly attacks on cops. It is time for left wing, progressive politicians and their media enablers to end their knee jerk anti-Police rhetoric.”
Protestors marched from Grand Central Terminal to Bryant Park last weekend, with some members of the group squirting paint on OMNY readers, pouring quick-set glue inside the turnstiles and posting anti-police graffiti at stations around the city.
“This demonstration activity follows the dangerous pattern of previous activities that have resulted in vandalization and defacement of MTA property – clearly violating laws,’ MTA Chief Security Officer Patrick Warren said.
The group said it wanted to get rid of subway fares and police patrols in the transit system.
King, who referred to the attacks as attempted assassinations, said the actions taken by the shooter were the latest examples “of the war on cops.”
“We saw this happen in 2014 when the assassinations of NYPD Officers Ramos and Liu followed anti-Police street demonstrations,” he added. “Stand with the Men and Women in Blue.”
