Female Senators Invite Women’s Soccer Team to Capitol

The U.S. women’s soccer team has been invited to the U.S. Capitol by 25 female senators following their World Cup victory.

“We believe on a bipartisan basis that your model of unity, diversity, and passion should be something that is consistently celebrated and emulated,” reads the letter headed by Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H.

“We would like to invite you to meet with the women of the Senate to discuss the challenges women face on and off the field,” it continues.

Top Democrats have also invited the women’s soccer team to the capitol, though an invitation from President Donald Trump has not been extended following his very public tiff with Megan Rapinoe, the U.S. women’s soccer team co-captain.

Rapinoe on Tuesday during an appearance on CNN said the president was excluding people.

“Your message is excluding people. You’re excluding me, you’re excluding people that look like me, you’re excluding people of color, you’re excluding Americans that maybe support you,” she told Anderson Cooper.

“You have an incredible responsibility as the chief of this country to take care of every single person,” she added, “and you need to do better for everyone.”
