Former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein hit former FBI Director James Comey with a scathing criticism while speaking Baltimore Monday.

Rosenstein said Comey had become a “partisan pundit, selling books and earning speaking fees while speculating about the strength of my character and the fate of my immortal soul.

“That is disappointing,” he added.

Rosenstein was speaking before a group of civic and business leaders at the annual meeting of the Greater Baltimore Committee.

He also defended his oversight of the special counsel investigation into Russian interference with the 2016 election and alleged collusion with the Trump campaign.

“I would never have allowed anyone to interfere with the investigation,” Rosenstein said.

He also appeared to defend the president on the charge that he fired Comey in order to influence the investigation.

Instead, Rosenstein said that the decision was made because of actions by Comey that “were not within the range of reasonable decisions.”

He criticized Comey for defending his actions in testimony before Congress, implying that he should have reconsidered what Rosenstein saw as mistakes.

“In essence, he said that he would do it again if he had the chance,” said Rosenstein.
