Gillibrand Heading to Iowa Next Weekend

As she mulls a 2020 presidential bid, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., is planning a trip to Iowa next weekend, Politico is reporting.

Gillibrand already is lining up events in Iowa, the first presidential caucus state. Politico also reported she is courting staffers there.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., who has filed for an exploratory presidential committee, toured the state last weekend. However, Gillibrand has yet to formally announce any presidential plans.

The Times Union newspaper reported she has signed a lease for 5,000-square foot of office space in downtown Troy, N.Y., amid speculation she is planning to use it for a campaign headquarters.

Gillibrand lives in the Troy suburb of Brunswick, according to the newspaper.

“Senator Gillibrand has been a strong voice for New York State and the city of Troy, advocating on the issues important to our residents in Washington,” Troy Mayor Patrick Madden said. “For Trojans, she is not just a U.S. senator, but a neighbor and familiar face with deep roots in our community, so it makes sense that Troy could be part of her future plans, whatever they may be.”
