Democratic billionaire activist Tom Steyer, who this year pledged to spend $50 million on a campaign to impeach President Trump, posted an online video that urges moms to “talk to your child about the GOP.”
Steyer’s NextGen America group released the ad just in time to politicize Mother’s Day, the Hill reports.
In the 60-second video, a woman talks about the “changes” she saw in her son from an early age while showing framed pictures of him bullying others, attending a pro-life rally and marching in a crowd of mean carrying torches.
She says her son started stealing, not from her, but from “less fortunate kids.”
The ad suggests the son’s opposition to abortion led to rocky romantic relationships.
“He was never afraid to talk to girls,” the woman says, “but things never really worked out for some reason.” The camera shows a portrait of a young man holding a sign that reads “Baby Killer.”
She says her hapless son came home from college often because he “never really learned how to do his own laundry,” as a Trump T-shirt sits atop her son’s laundry basket.
“It wasn’t until I met his college buddies that I realized it may be too late,” she says, holding a photo of a group of men carrying torches, similar to the violent white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., last summer.
“Only a mother can catch the signs early,” she says, as the video shows her swigging from a martini glass. “This Mother’s Day, talk to your child about the GOP. I wish I had.”
Steyer founded Farallon Capital Management, a $25.4 billion fund based in San Francisco.
Democrats have been reluctant to publicly embrace the impeachment campaign by the top Democratic donor, fearing it could complicate their efforts to recapture control of the House in November.
President Obama’s former top political strategist, David Axelrod, has called Steyer’s impeachment campaign as a “vanity project” and “unhelpful.”
Tom Steyer last month endorsed state Sen. Kevin de Leon in the Democratic primary, passing over long-time incumbent Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., the Washington Examiner reported.
